The jumping spider (salticid) Thiodina sylvana is common in or near wooded areas in Eastern North America. These spiders appear to operate in a stealth mode, moving and turning slowly to face objects of interest in their surroundings. This video depicts many of the moving and turning behaviors of these spiders, and highlights many important features of jumping spider biology. Included are views of the scanning telescopic Anterior Medial Eyes, and both extension and retraction of the articulated foot pads.
